Our Story

Hromada was founded in December 2017 in San Francisco with a simple mission: to serve the Ukrainian-American community through trusted journalism and authentic storytelling. What began as a Ukrainian-language print newspaper has evolved into a nationwide digital media platform, reaching diaspora readers across the United States.

From Print to Digital

As our community's information needs shifted, so did we. We transitioned from print to a digital-first platform without losing the editorial integrity and cultural authenticity that defined our founding. Today, every week, we publish articles, interviews, and cultural features across news, education, business, and community initiatives—all with the same commitment to serving our diaspora that inspired our first issue.

Building Community Connection

Hromada means "community" or "gathering" in Ukrainian. We chose this name because we believe media should strengthen, not just inform. Every story we publish is an invitation to deeper connection—to the news shaping our lives, the culture we preserve, the opportunities we pursue, and the neighbors we serve alongside. We are a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit, which means our work is driven by mission, not profit margins.

Consistency You Can Trust

For years, Hromada has maintained a consistent weekly publication schedule—a promise to our community that trusted news, cultural stories, and community coverage will arrive in your inbox every week. We've grown from a San Francisco newsroom to a nationwide platform, yet we remain rooted in the values that brought us here: accuracy, authenticity, and unwavering commitment to the Ukrainian-American diaspora.
